Geohot is back at it, this time with an untethered jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.X.

This is what he wrote on his blog just minutes ago:

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too. Don’t ask about a release date. You won’t make it happen any sooner.

This is amazing news! And i know of many people who like having a jailbroken iPhone 3GS but have the newer bootrom so currently only a tethered break will work. (Not for much longer!)

But… It does look like this new jailbreak tool won’t be ready anytime soon, but it’s still a good news for those of you who have to kickstart their iPhones with BlackRa1n everytime they reboot.

Any Thoughts? Comments?

Geohot to Release Untethered Jailbreak

I just read in the MMI forums that an iPhone hacker going by the name of msft.guy has put together a new package for  BlackSn0w to work on iPhone 3.1.3 with baseband 05.11.07. It also appears that this “update” to BlackSn0w fixes the bug that causes issues with WiFi.

Apparently this has been tested by several people and it works flawlessly on both iPhone 3G and 3GS. But will it be released? According to the MMI post,

It appears that msft.guy has no intention of publicly releasing the fix and GeoHot is nowhere to be found to comment on the issue.

I personally don’t think GeoHot cares much about this at all. At this point, I actually don’t think anyone cares at all about this BlackSn0w unlock. Whoever “accidentally” upgraded their iPhone to 3.1.3 is now stuck on the newer 05.12.07 baseband, for which there is still no unlock. What’s really needed now is a jailbreak/unlock for OTB iPhone 3.1.3

X2 Games, developer of X2 Football 2009 and X2 Snowboarding, have recently released a new game, Papa’s Pizzeria, which allows players to win free pizza codes and other food prizes which can be redeemed at Papa John’s Pizza stores across the UK.
Food, beverage and it seems all other retailers are fighting for coverage in the App Store with their own apps or partnership deals with games and social networking apps. This opens up a unique approach to iPhone apps and one that benefits the consumer and hence I think its fantastic.

The point of the game is to take orders, create and deliver Papa John’s pizza’s quickly and efficiently. Players who excel are rewarded as they progress through the game, in the following ways :-

I so want me some of these app icon fridge magnets from Jailbreak Toys. They’re in a set of 18 different magnets, and pretty much appear to be an exact copy of the iPhone’s default application icons. They priced at $13 around (£8.60) maybe a bit expensive, but it depends on how much you want them i guess!

MuscleNerd recently tweeted about a new device to boot tethered jailboken 3.1.2 iDevices without pluging it to a computer. This standalone piece of hardware is called an iDongle.

Now why would you need an iDongle? You might want to get one of those babies if your jailbroken iPhone or iTouch gets stuck at the “Connect-to-iTunes” logo everytime you reboot. The iDongle will save you a trip to the computer and can be very handy if you accidentally reboot your tethered device on-the-go.

According to the creator of the iDongle, this little piece of hardware is able to tether boot your jailbroken device, and optionnally jailbreak and hacktivate it if not already done. Looks like a savior for many of you who don’t want to be able to reboot your jailbroken iPhone anywhere/anytime.

What the catch? well the catch is that the iDongle is pretty much a prototype so far. It works but the creator needs your help to start manufacturing them in large quantities. You can help by buying a prototype at a good price, or simply by donating for a pre-order. I suggest you check out the iDongle website for more information.

In the meantime, watch this video to see see the iDongle in action. It’s a bit boring but it works!

What do you think about the iDongle?

MedTango.com has developped an iPhone version of their Medical Search Engine that is very impressive. It contains all the information that are in the web version of the web application, but totally adapted to the iPhone. Very good job from the team behind it.

Your iPhone is also automatically detected apparently, I guess the iPod Touch as well.

MedTango is also available on Android, I’ve just tested on my Google Nexus One, and it looks the same as on the iPhone.

If you want to have a look, here it is:

This is a step in the right direction, although alot of people who are jobless tend not to have iPhones! So that might be at a loss!

The UK’s Jobcentre Plus service is now available through an iPhone application and Android, providing a vital service to the jobless-but-gadget-obsessed.

The app is free to download and provides for keyword searching, with location-specific filtering and maps showing where the work is – we found the location part a bit optimistic in the way it broadens the search area until it gets some hits, but that’s a small quibble.

The real question is why searching for a job needs to be done on a mobile phone? It could be argued that anyone looking for work would be better sat in front of a PC, a view underlined by the announcement that 50 job centres around the country would be sharing a couple of hundred PCs between them for exactly that reason.

Apparently 13 per cent of the jobs advertised through jobcentres now require digital applications. That’s 350,000 vacancies which are closed to those without access to a PC, or a high-end smart phone.

Except that the mobile application can’t actually be used to apply for the job. For that you’ll need to call Jobseeker Direct and give them the reference number of the job, so it’s a search service and nothing more. It’s also restricted to the iPhone and Android platforms – users of lesser handsets will have to rely on the web site, or travel into town.

But encouraging people to search for a better job more often can only be a good thing, and ten minutes of boredom is probably better spent looking for a job than playing Tetris.

Independent software developer Martin Knotek today is pleased to announce the release of Asteroid shooter 1.0 for iPhone and iPod touch devices. Asteroid shooter is classic arcade game, with cool space design, where the goal is to shoot all asteroids in the playfield.

The game is simple with focus just on the gaming experience and the player is not bothered with any quests and complicated user interface. Each level is uniquely designed with excellent space backgrounds. The game is fast with immediate changes between the levels. The difficulty is increased when advancing to a new level. With each level the speed of asteroids or the number of asteroids increases.

The game features an intuitive move control. Missiles are created after each touch on screen. Also multi touches are enabled. The control is realized using the “ship button” and moving your finger across the touch screen. The ship shoots unlimited in the direction of pressing position.
